Stay & TrainBoard & Train results, and your dog never leaves home
Most immersive training programs start the same way: you drop your dog at a facility and hope for the best. Stay & Train flips that. Zak drives to your home, six days a week, and trains your dog right where the problems live. You see every session, you learn every skill, and your dog sleeps in their own bed every night.
What is Stay & Train?
Stay & Train is KompK9's flagship in-home training program. Zak comes to you one hour a day, six days a week, for about three weeks, roughly 18 sessions in total. The industry sometimes calls this model day training. Zak calls it Stay & Train, because your dog stays home, stays in routine, and stays with you.
The daily rhythm is what makes it work. Dogs learn through short, frequent, consistent sessions, not marathon weekends. Eighteen sessions in three weeks builds habits fast, and because you are there for them, the habits belong to your whole household instead of leaving with the trainer.
Looking for an in-home board and train?
If you have been searching for board and train near Annapolis, here is the honest version of that conversation. Board and train means your dog lives at a facility for a few weeks and, in theory, comes back trained. It often works on the dog. It rarely works on the home, because the dog returns to the same environment, the same routines, and owners who never got trained themselves.
Stay & Train is the in-home alternative. Same intensity, same timeline, same off-leash goals. The difference is that the training happens where your dog actually lives, and you are part of it from day one. KompK9 does not board dogs, on purpose.
| Comparison | Board & Train | Stay & Train |
|---|---|---|
| Where your dog sleeps | In a kennel at the facility | At home, in their own bed |
| Where training happens | A controlled facility environment | Your home, your street, your real life |
| Who learns the skills | The dog only | The dog and you |
| Your involvement | A handoff lesson at pickup | Every session, six days a week |
| After week three | Results often fade back at home | The habits were built at home to begin with |
| Where the money goes | Training plus boarding and facility costs | Training only, $2,750 to $3,250 |
Three tiers, one method
Every tier runs the same way: about three weeks of daily one hour sessions at your home, with you involved throughout. The difference is what your dog needs.
Basic obedience training for dogs, done properly. Foundations covers everything a dog needs to become genuinely pleasant to live with: sit, down, stay, come, and calm leash manners, including heeling, walking without pulling, and leaving the leash alone. It suits young dogs, new rescues, and any dog whose main crime is having no idea what the rules are.
Behavioral is the program for dogs that need more than manners. Reactive dog training, aggression, resource guarding, separation anxiety, and general anxiety all live in this tier. These are the cases where owners tell Zak they have tried everything, and where a weekly lesson is usually not enough to turn things around.
Reactivity and aggression are rarely about a bad dog. They are about a dog that has learned the wrong answer to stress and has been rehearsing it every day. Fixing that takes more than obedience commands. Zak works like a dog behaviorist as much as a dog trainer: identifying triggers, changing the routines that feed the behavior, adjusting diet where it plays a role, and teaching you to read your dog before things escalate instead of after.
Daily sessions matter most here. An aggressive or anxious dog does not need one perfect hour a week. It needs a calm, consistent handler showing up six days in a row, in the exact hallway, yard, or doorway where the trouble starts. That is what aggressive dog rehabilitation actually looks like, and it is why this work happens in your home instead of a facility.
Zak’s first behavioral case was his own dog. Titus, a 130 pound Bullmastiff, went from seriously reactive to the dog that started this company. You can read the full story on the About page. If you are living with a dog you have started to be afraid of, start there. There is hope, and there is a plan.
Off-Leash is for owners who want the full version of the dream: a dog that hikes, swims, and explores with real freedom and still comes back on the first call. The program builds on rock solid obedience and adds modern e-collar training, using low level communication that works at a distance. Zak teaches you the tool properly, from fit to timing, and the exact collar he trains with is on the gear page. Off-leash freedom is earned in stages, and by the end of the program you will know exactly what your dog is ready for.

“His style of training and working with myself and Bea every day so we could really learn the process of training and ground rules really set the stage for her transformation. 3 weeks later and she is no longer reacting to strangers, other dogs, noise or my cat. She walks off leash and eats out of my hand…”
